$2000 H-1B Visa Fee May Get Re-Imposed Again – Huge Hit for Indian IT Firms

Here is a bad news for H-1B visa employers. A special $2000 fee imposed on H-1B visa may return which got lapsed in the federal fiscal year.

This fee was first introduced in 2010 which asked the H-1B visa employers to pay an additional fee of $2000 approximately which got expired couple of months back. The primary focus of this bill is to fund this amount to 9/11 Healthcare Act in the US.

Fresh efforts are being made to re-impose this bill once again. And it will hugely hit the Indian IT firms who have at least 50% of H-1B visa or L-1 visas working under them.

The bill, introduced by Congress Group, will be applicable to many of the Indian firms, who are the leading employers of H-1B visa.

According to the sources, congress diplomats are leaving no stone unturned in getting this bill passed, to bring back the fee once again.

This extra H-1B visa fee i.e. $2000, was used to make funds to 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. And now this fee is up for renewal, which got expired previously.

Sources said, “H-1B visa fee bill will be extended and it is expected that this fee will fund the Zadroga bill partially”. It’s just an expectation, says House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Let’s wait for the H-1B visa fee renewal as it will generate necessary funds for Zadroga bill, says Lawmakers. This additional fee will only be paid by the IT companies who have 50% of H-1B and L-1 visa workforce with them.

Indian Companies, between 2010 and 2015, had paid around $70 to $ 80 million, according to NASSCOM.
