Sri Srinivasan – Top Pick for US Supreme Court Justice

Sri Srinivasan could be the first Indian-American judge to become a US supreme court justice. Reports gave a speculation that Barack Obama would like to give this position to such a person who has incredible bipartisan support after the sudden death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

Born in Chandigarh, Sri Srinivasan, aged 48, is on the top list of soon-to-be justice of US Supreme Court. He is a member of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, reported CNN.

Srinivasan, who was first nominated for the post in 2012 by Obama. He graduated from Stanford University in 1989 and was a high school basketball star in Kansas before this.

Srinivasan has bipartisan support in the Congress, reported some sources. He, a pioneer, was avowed to be a judge in the US Courts of Appeal for the district of Columbia Circuit, making him the first Indian-American to set this impeccable example.

O’Connor called him one of the just, wonderful and immaculate personalities. Srinivasan has good reputation as an advocate who took eminent legal proceedings in his career of being associated with the US Supreme Court and US Court of Appeals.

He was first a law clerk in the US Court of Appeals, from 1995 to 1996, for Judge Harvie Wilkinson in the fourth circuit. Then, he served in the office of the Solicitor General as a Bristow Fellow and after that, worked under O’Connor as a clerk in 1997-98 in Supreme Court.

From 1998-2002, Srinivasan worked as an associate with O’Melveny and Myers LLP, in the law firm of Washington DC when he took over the charge of assistant of Solicitor General to represent the US in legal proceedings before Supreme Court.

In 2005, he got awarded with Office of the Secretary of Defence Award for Excellence followed by Attorney General Award for Excellence in Furthering US National Security, in 2003. Srinivasan joined hands as a partner with O’Melveny and Myers LLP and was confirmed with the Chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group, in 2007 and 2011 respectively.

Then in August, 2011, he became Principal Deputy Solicitor General and he also took classes on Appellate advocacy at Harvard Law School.
