USCIS Discontinues I-539 (Change of Status) E-filing

USCIS recently announced that they are going to temporarily discontinue e-filing of I-539 (Application to Extend/Change Non Immigration Status). Since USCIS recently updated the I-539 paper form, they want to make the necessary changes to the electronic form as well.

How to file I-539 (Application to Extend/Change Non Immigration Status) now?

USCIS still accepts the paper based applications. So, you need to file the paper version of the form.

Already started a I-539 form online but didn`t submit yet. What to do now?

You have 30 days to submit the application online from the day you started the application. If you couldn`t submit it with in the 30 days time period, you need to file a paper based application.

Already filed the I-539 online before June 15, 2015 . How to check the status?

You can still so the following if you have filed it before June 15,2015

  • Check the case status
  • Change the Address
  • Responding to RFE (Request for Evidence).

Now a days, it is taking more than 4 months for I-539 approvals. If you are planning to file I-539 any time soon, Please plan accordingly.
